DMOS Orthopaedic Centers Becomes One of the Largest Orthopedic Groups in Iowa
THREE FELLOWSHIP-TRAINED SURGEONS GIVE CENTRAL IOWA MORE OPPORTUNITY TO SEEK SPECIALIZED ORTHOPEDIC CARE
West Des Moines, IA - Wednesday, August 26, 2020 – Today, DMOS Orthopaedic Centers are proud to announce three fellowship-trained surgeons will join their medical group on Monday, August 31, 2020.
What is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon? A medical doctor who elects to spend an extra year after their required five years of general orthopedic surgery training, focusing on a specific 'specialty' in orthopedics.
Please help us welcome:
Lea Gunnell, MD, specializes in Foot & Ankle and Lower Extremity trauma. She will practice in Des Moines and West Des Moines. With nearly ten years in practice in Texas and Michigan, she has the experience to treat simple and complex foot, ankle, and lower extremity procedures. Her undergraduate degree in materials science and engineering gives her a unique perspective on the mechanics and force of bone, muscle, and ligament injuries. This distinctive viewpoint, combined with her many years of medical experience, helps her deliver the highest comprehensive care for patients with foot, ankle, and lower extremity pain, injury, or trauma.
Brock Reiter, MD: specializes in Hand & Upper Extremity, will practice in Ankeny and West Des Moines. Dr. Reiter expertise includes: hand and upper extremity fracture surgery and soft tissue reconstruction, as well as shoulder arthroscopy & arthroplasty, elbow arthroscopy, arthroplasty, complex wrist and hand surgeries for trauma or arthritis, and nerve disorders including compressive neuropathies (carpal or cubital tunnel syndrome) and associated traumatic nerve injuries.
Anthony Tedesco, DO: specializes in Sports Medicine, and General Orthopedics will offer his services full time at UnityPoint Health – Grinnell. Dr. Tedesco will provide treatment for a wide array of fractures, injuries and degenerative conditions with a particular focus on arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, including procedures such as ACL reconstruction and rotator cuff repairs. He will also perform joint replacements of the knee and shoulder, including partial knee replacement, total knee replacement, anatomic shoulder replacement, and reverse total shoulder replacement.
The addition of these three new doctors builds the medical assets and capital right here in Central Iowa.
“Recruiting highly specialized, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons is a long process, often taking years to find the proper fit," says Nicholas Honkamp, MD and DMOS President. "The fact that we have three talented orthopedic specialists joining our team simultaneously is incredibly exciting. We know this growth improves our medical community and gives Central Iowa patients more opportunities to seek exceptional orthopedic care.”
DMOS Orthopaedic Centers has expanded services in the past year to include an Urgent Injury Walk-In clinic in Ankeny and an Interventional Physiatry Clinic to diagnose and manage chronic and acute injuries non-surgically or with minimally invasive procedures. These efforts among others allow DMOS the ability to provide solutions across the orthopedic prism from acute to chronic, non-surgical to surgical to MRI, Hand and Physical Therapy treatments.
