Athene Black & Brown Business Summit Fundraiser 2023

WEST DES MONES, IA (FRIDAY, APRIL 14, 2023) – The West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce (WDM Chamber) announced that donations are now open for the Get ACTIVE fundraiser benefiting By Degrees Foundation through April 21. The fundraiser is for one  nonprofit 501©3 organization who helps to support social justice programming in Greater Des Moines Iowa.

Fundraising efforts are held in conjunction with the Athene Black & Brown Business Summit (the Athene Summit): Get ACTIVE for the Athene Black & Brown Business Summit (Get ACTIVE Fundraiser). Bike, walk, run, or get active before the Athene Summit to promote health, support social justice, and raise funds for the one chosen nonprofit and support future leaders. By Degrees Foundation will receive 100% of the funds raised during this campaign.

By Degrees Foundation partners with public schools and works to increase high school graduation and postsecondary readiness rates through an expansive, K-12 culture of future-focused planning and saving.

A spokesperson for the organization stated: The By Degrees Foundation is grateful for support from this year’s Athene Black and Brown Business Summit (BBBS), organized by the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce. Just as the Athene BBBS was created to elevate minorities and bring businesses owned by Black, Indigenous, and people of color together to build connections and provide resources, By Degrees works in public schools to elevate students and families, create connections, and provide resources to ensure students succeed. We believe education is a community effort and actively work in neighborhoods that are historically under-resourced. By Degrees understands that success in school requires support in other areas. With funds raised through the Athene BBBS, By Degrees looks forward to expanding our health and wellness programing for all 2,400 scholars in our partner schools.

Past recipients of funding during this campaign have benefited Jewels Academy and NAACP Iowa Chapter in 2021, Hispanic Educational Resources/Conmigo Early Education Center and Willkie House in 2022.
