Mayor Steve Gaer approved the proclamation for “WDM Day of Kindness,” championed by the WDM Chamber’s Leadership Academy Alumni Committee.

WEST DES MONES, IA (JANUARY 20, 2021) – The Mayor of West Des Moines has proclaimed January 29th, 2021 as “West Des Moines Day of Kindness.” This special occasion comes as a result of the WDM Chamber’s Leadership Academy Alumni Committee seeking a way to make a positive impact on the community.

Now more than ever, small acts of kindness can make the biggest difference in someone’s day. “You could pay it forward in line for coffee, show appreciation for our frontline workers, shovel a neighbor’s driveway, or send a text to someone who might need some encouragement,” said Kara Matheson, Director of Workforce Development with the West Des Moines Chamber. “It can be the simplest gesture, but it’s so rewarding to be able to bring a smile to someone’s face.”

Studies show that kindness benefits not only the receiver, but also the giver. Whether big or small, monetary or action-oriented, and anonymous or direct, West Des Moines community members are encouraged to be intentional with acts of kindness on January 29th to make #WDMkind spread far and wide.
