Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Virtual Celebration
Several key stakeholders in the City of West Des Moines are joining together to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. January 18th is the official day of his life in celebration. The City of West Des Moines, West Des Moines Community School District, Des Moines University, City of West Des Moines Human Rights Commission, West Des Moines Historical Society, West Des Moines Chamber and more are working on a variety of ways we can uplift his voice and highlight diversity, equity, and inclusion in 2021.
We hope you will join us in this community celebration that will highlight what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his teachings mean to key leaders in the region and how we can all apply it to better our lives and communities for the future.
At this inspirational event, you will learn who is awarded this year's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. West Des Moines Youth Leadership Award (we have several this year that will be honored!) and the Community Leadership Award. In addition West Des Moines City Mayor Steve Gaer will be reading a special Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Proclamation for the City.
This special event is moderated by Renee Hardman – CEO / Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa and West Des Moines City Councilwoman
