West YP - Managing vs. Leading
We often use the words “manager” and “leader” interchangeably to describe individuals who supervise people and projects. Yet, these roles do not always encompass the same attitudes, actions, or activities in the workplace and can result in very different outcomes. During our session with Melissa Chamberlin, Associate Professor of Management with the ISU Ivy College of Business, we’ll consider the similarities and differences between managing and leading. We’ll also identify the consequences of effective management and leadership, and explore our own potential for managing and leading.
Our goals include:
- Understanding what makes a good manager and a good leader
- Learning when to think like a manager and when to think like a leader
- Capitalizing on our personal strengths in managing and leading
