YURtern - WDM College Internship Program Registration

Do you have a college intern this summer?

Hosting a summer college intern is a smart workforce development strategy and a good investment for your future.  The West Des Moines Chamber and partner, City of West Des Moines, want to support your efforts with programming specifically designed for your interns.  There is no fee to your company or to your intern(s) to participate.  We want to involve as many companies as possible! In order for your interns to attend events, they must register for that specific event. This is a wonderful oppurtunity for you and your interns to take advantage of. The remaining events for our YURtern College Internship Progam is as follows:

• Wednesday, July 18th ACCELERATE, our Emerging Leaders’ program, will host a social activity for the participating interns. We will have a barbeque and tons of yard games. It will be a great evening of fun, food and new friendships. This event will take place in the Biddle Rotary Shelter, near the Nature Lodge at Raccoon River Park from 5-7pm. REGISTER

• Tuesday, July 24th We will host another lunch and learn focused on “Nailing the Interview and Fine Tuning your Negotiation Skills”.  Even seasoned professionals can use help with these subjects! We will meet at Des Moines Golf & Country Club from 11:30-1:00. REGISTER

• Friday, July 27^th Coffee with the Mayor! West Des Moines Mayor Steve Gaer will inform us all about the ins and outs of running a city, the steps he took to become Mayor, and advice he has for you to get active in the community. He is also looking for feedback on what he can offer interns like you to enhance your quality of life. This event will take place at the WDM Chamber Office from 7:30-8:30am  REGISTER

• Wednesday, August 1st, ACCELERATE will host a final event, using a “speed mentoring” format.  Interns will spend 20 minutes at a table led by an emerging leader before moving on to the next table for 20 minutes.  These emerging leaders will share lessons learned and pitfalls to avoid when life after college becomes the real deal. This event will be held from 11:30-1:00pm at City Hall.  REGISTER
