What You Can Expect In This Role
Responsible for the preparation of the annual, quarterly and monthly internal and external investment statements and reports. Maintain the investment accounting system, cash flow projections and investment database. Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for the department and handle complex work assignments. Work in a positive, professional and collaborative fashion with employees at all levels across the organization.
What You'll Do In This Role
Serve as subject matter expert (SME) and ‘go to’ individual for the department by handling complex work items and questions presented to the team. Research and understand new accounting and financial reporting requirements including in-depth knowledge of how to apply the existing statutory National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC or STAT) guidelines and most aspects of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) insurance investment accounting to our investment processes and systems.
Prepare and review annual and quarterly regulatory (i.e. GAAP and STAT) filings for compliance, data quality and overall trend analysis for all investments, including but not limited to long-term bonds, derivatives, equity securities, limited partnerships (and other equity method investments), mortgage loans and short-term investments. Serve as the first point of contact for investment accounting in responding to follow-up questions from internal and external stakeholders.
Review the daily and monthly asset reconciliation of custodian to investment system, cash flow projections and investment database; address any issues or concerns immediately.
Collaborate with leaders across the business to develop reporting requirements or identify opportunities for improvements in existing reporting packages. Lead initiatives from ideation to implementation and follow-up with stakeholders to confirm objectives were met.
Positively collaborate with team members to create and maintain process flow documentation. Analyze current state processes and examine for opportunities to build efficiencies and automation. Review and edit standard operating procedures as needed.
Prepare and review compliance/regulatory and distribute external reports.
Execute and lead key controls for the purposes of both the Model Audit Rule (MAR) and the external audit of our year-end GAAP financials and other all product filings with the SEC, with a focus on controls over the investment accounting system. Design and identify all appropriate checks and balances within those key controls, along with ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Prepare and review internal reports for management, actuary, finance and investment advisors.
Prepare and review monthly investment accounting trial balance reconciliations.
Continuously scrub and enhance data within the investment systems. (i.e. holdings, transactions, security master file, etc.)
Act as an investment system consultant for users of the system, answering day-to-day questions with security master set-ups, system functions, etc., performing secondary system administrator functions.
Assist in transferring files in and out of the investment system for a variety of processes including but not limited to: pricing, PSA speeds for mortgage backed securities, NAIC uploads, feeds to Bondedge and Bloomberg, etc.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of investment accounting policies and procedures documentation (i.e. MAR documentation).
Communicate effectively with areas outside of Corporate Accounting to proactively identify and implement projects that impact Investment Analysis and Reporting.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization including several geographic locations.
The workload may occasionally demand additional work outside of the company's standard 40-hour work week.

What We're Looking For
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management with a strong accounting background Preferred
Minimum 5 years' accounting, insurance, financial reporting, auditing or related experience Preferred
Previous investment accounting systems experience Preferred
Strong familiarity with the investment guidelines as it relates to the various annual and quarterly statements also with the unique aspects of GAAP and statutory insurance accounting as it relates to investment accounting
Strong knowledge of the investment system data elements, processes, report schedules and report writers
Extensive knowledge of complex investment instruments with the proven ability to build and maintain a strong working relationship with staff and managers within Corporate Accounting and Investments
Advanced knowledge in the use of financial databases and spreadsheets
Excellent attention to detail

This role will be subject to a SEC compliance program, which can include monitoring personal securities transactions, restrictions on outside business activities, as well as other oversight and restrictions.

Salary Range Information
USD $68,462.00 - USD $128,365.00 /Yr. Range includes data points from multiple labor markets. Specific range is dependent on the labor market where the incumbent will be hired to perform the position. Starting salary is dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. For a narrower salary range specific to your labor market, please inquire.
