DMU's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Partners with Biomedix for Better Vascular Care

WEST DES MOINES, IA (02/03/2025) Biomedix, a pioneer in medical technology and innovation, has announced a clinical and educational sponsorship with Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences' College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. The sponsorship by Biomedix is designed to provide students with access to cutting-edge technology for vascular assessments. This includes the PADnet 5th Generation and PADnet Xpress devices, along with a comprehensive suite of digital assessments that will prepare students for contemporary collaborative care practices.

"This partnership with Biomedix is a tremendous step forward in our mission to provide students with hands-on clinical learning experience in the latest medical technologies," says Kevin Smith, D.P.M.'95, Ph.D., FACFAS, dean of DMU's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. "By integrating the PADnet system into our curriculum, we are equipping future podiatric students with the tools and knowledge they need to set the standard in vascular care and further improve patient outcomes."

PADnet is the market leader in front line diagnostics in peripheral vascular disease and the only diagnostic device that can support the identification of peripheral artery disease and chronic venous insufficiency. The machine helps screen and assess patients for atherosclerosis in the lower extremities. It's unique collaborative care model enables the cost-effective delivery of care that optimizes patient outcomes.

"In addition to transforming how we teach vascular testing, the partnership also reinforces our commitment to training students in an interprofessional environment and the importance of multidisciplinary care in future health care systems," Smith says.

DMU's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery continues to be a leader in training future leaders and clinicians in the field. The partnership with Biomedix will allow students the ability to provide the best care to their patients in the communities they serve.

Located in West Des Moines, part of Iowa's capital metro, Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences offers 10 graduate-level professional degree programs in anatomy, biomedical sciences, health care administration, occupational therapy, osteopathic medicine, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, podiatric medicine and public health. Founded in 1898, the institution offers superior academics in a collaborative environment. DMU students' scores on national examinations, pass rates on board certifications and match rates for medical residency programs are consistently higher than national averages and rates at peer institutions.
