Gabe Olson Named to Iowa Bankers Foundation Board

Olson to serve as vice chair of the inaugural Iowa Bankers Foundation Board of Directors

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (September 23, 2026) – West Bank announced that Gabe Olson, Senior Vice President and Commercial Banker, has been named to the 2026-27 Iowa Bankers Foundation Board of Directors. Olson will serve as vice chair of the Foundation's inaugural board.

The Iowa Bankers Foundation will enhance the banking industry's community impact across Iowa. Foundation funding will be used to strengthen financial literacy and entrepreneurship, support homeownership, strengthen the workforce, and assist communities facing hardships such as natural disasters and other catastrophic events.

With more than 225 Iowa banks located throughout the state, communities both large and small are supported by a local banking presence. Iowa banks safeguard more than $107 billion in deposits and lend more than $88 billion to individuals, businesses, and agricultural operations. Beyond providing financing, Iowa bankers contribute their time, expertise, and financial resources to the communities they serve.

"I am honored to serve as vice chair of the Iowa Bankers Foundation's inaugural board of directors," said Olson. "Throughout my career, I’ve seen how organizations can make a meaningful difference by investing in their communities. I’ve had the privilege of serving on the boards of the West Bancorporation Foundation and Variety - the Children's Charity of Iowa, and those experiences have strengthened my commitment to community service and philanthropic impact. The opportunity to bring nonprofit board experience together with industry knowledge is unique, and I look forward to helping the Iowa Bankers Foundation create a lasting impact in communities across Iowa."

Olson joined West Bank in 2005 and specializes in commercial and industrial lending, with extensive experience serving medical practices and healthcare-related businesses. He is active in the community, having previously served on Variety – The Children's Charity of Iowa's Board of Directors and currently serving on its Finance Committee. He also served on the board of directors of the West Bancorporation Foundation.

“Community involvement has always been central to who we are as a bank," said Dave Nelson, Chairman and CEO of West Bank. "Gabe has a long history of serving community and nonprofit organizations. We are proud to see him appointed to the Iowa Bankers Foundation’s Board of Directors.”
