Jon Hummel Honored by American Banker Association with 2024 Emerging Leader Award

Jon Hummel, Vice President, Commercial Banker at West Bank was honored by the American Bankers Association as a recipient of the 2024 ABA Emerging Leaders Award. This award recognizes the next generation of bank leaders who are committed to the highest standards of achievement and service to both their industry and their local communities. Hummel was honored at the ABA Annual Convention on October 27-29 in New York, New York.

The winners were selected by a diverse steering committee of industry professionals after a review of nominations from banks across the country. The qualities and characteristics the committee evaluated as judging criteria included dedication to the profession, inventiveness, leadership skills, mentoring ability, personal integrity, tenure at the bank and broader commitment to a career in banking, sustained career progress, and academic training including advanced degrees and certificates/certifications.

Hummel began his career at West Bank in 2012 as an Assistant Branch Manager. He was later promoted to the role of Commercial Credit Analyst in 2013 and to Commercial Banking Officer in 2014. In 2016, he was promoted to Second Vice President of Commercial Banking and again in 2017 to First Vice President of Commercial Banking. Hummel has held the position of Vice President of Commercial Banking since 2020.
Hummel has completed continuing education through the Iowa Bankers Association Commercial Lending School and the Iowa Bankers Association Leaders in Advocacy program. In 2022, Hummel was named Up & Coming Banker of the Year by the Community Bankers of Iowa. In 2024, he was recognized as one of the Business Record’s Forty Under 40 honorees.
He has dedicated much time and talent to the West Des Moines community. Currently, he serves on the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors, American Bankers Association Emerging Leaders Council, Greater Dallas County Development Alliance, and is the Immediate Past Chair of the Community Bankers of Iowa Leaders of Tomorrow. Previously, he has served on the boards of the Greater Des Moines Partnership and Downtown Des Moines Kiwanis among others.
