Opportunity to Cover DMU's First In-Person Match Day
Media Invitation Only - Not Open to the Public
WEST DES MOINES, IA (03/12/2025) With an ongoing physician shortage, particularly in Iowa, and Gov. Kim Reynolds' recent federal request to improve residency access, this event is timely and relevant!
Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences invites you to an opportunity to cover a milestone event: our first in-person Match Day in DMU's history on Friday, March 21, at our 8025 Grand Ave. campus.
Residency matching is a pivotal moment in a medical student's journey to becoming a physician. This high-energy event is filled with anticipation and emotion as students learn where they will continue their education and training.
Why Cover DMU's Match Day?
Strong Local Impact: Last year, 44 DMU students matched in Iowa, and we anticipate a significant number again this year. At 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, we'll know who matches where and can connect you for an interview. This will be a powerful and emotional celebration with approximately 310 RSVPs from students and their family members.
Interviews: We can arrange interviews with students, the dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine and other faculty to provide insight into the importance of residency placement and its impact on health care in Iowa.
Event Flow:
The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon. If you decide to cover it, we recommend arriving by 10:40 a.m. for remarks from DMU President Angela L. Walker Franklin and faculty members, followed by a celebratory champagne toast.
Match announcements are at 11 a.m. This is the moment students will receive their communication to discover their residency placements.
