Ryan Radloff Brings Experience and Knowledge as New DMU Wellness Center Director
WEST DES MOINES, IA (01/29/2025) Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences welcomes Ryan Radloff as the new Wellness Center Director. With over 14 years of professional experience in health, wellness and fitness, Radloff brings a wealth of expertise and a vision for fostering health and well-being within the DMU community. This appointment comes after the retirement of Joy Schiller, who was the Wellness Center Director for 35 years.
"I look forward to creating an inclusive and innovative hub where personal and professional well-being go hand in hand. I want the Wellness Center to be a place that addresses the unique pressures of medical education and health care careers - providing evidence-based programs that not only reduce stress, but also build resilience," Radloff says. "By listening to the needs of students and employees, we can develop initiatives that meet them where they are, both in terms of convenience and care."
A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Promotion and Fitness/Management/Exercise Science, Radloff began his career at UNI's Wellness and Recreation Center where he gained hands-on experience in university-based wellness programming. His professional journey includes an eight-year tenure at Life Time, overseeing multiple locations in the Kansas City market. Most recently, Radloff has operated his own fitness and business consulting company in Des Moines, focusing on client training, operational growth strategies and team development.
"Ryan brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in both wellness and entrepreneurship, which will help to build on our successes as a wellness program and develop it to be successful for years to come," says Phil Blumberg, M.H.A., executive director of the DMU Clinic. "He joins us understanding that our work, first and foremost, is to continue the role of being the wellness/well-being hub at DMU. I look forward to seeing his collaborations with stakeholders across campus grow and foster great programming and opportunities for all wellness journeys."
Radloff shares he plans to foster collaboration across all departments, ensuring wellness is embedded in policies, curriculum and campus life. Ultimately, these plans will help to create a culture that bridges the gap between traditional medicine and proactive, preventative care, setting the foundation for lifelong wellness.
"My goal is to ensure that every member of the DMU community feels supported in living their best and healthiest life," Radloff says. "And that this value is reflected in every aspect of campus culture."
