SIXTH ANNUAL DAY OF KINDNESS PROCLAIMED AS FEBRUARY 27

Mayor Russ Trimble approved the proclamation for “Day of Kindness,” championed by the WDM Chamber’s Leadership Academy Alumni.

WEST DES MONES, IA (FEBRUARY 17th, 2026) – Mayor of West Des Moines have proclaimed February 27, 2026, as “Day of Kindness.” This special occasion returns for its sixth year, created by alumni of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce’s (WDM Chamber) Leadership Academy who wanted to make a meaningful difference in the community. The day is dedicated to encouraging intentional acts of kindness that positively impact neighbors across West Des Moines.

Community members looking for ways to give back are encouraged to stop by the West Des Moines Chamber office, located at 650 S. Prairie View Parkway, Suite 110, on Friday, February 27, between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., to drop off a new pair of socks. 

This sock drive supports West Des Moines Human Services through the “Socks of Love” campaign, an initiative created by West Des Moines Leadership Academy alum Mick Grossman. The West Des Moines Chamber is once again inviting the community to come together to support neighbors in need and help surpass last year’s total.

Something as simple as a new pair of socks can bring warmth, comfort, and dignity to someone who could use a little extra support, especially during the winter months,” said Pat Desenberg, Advisory Council Chair of the West Des Moines Leadership Academy. “The community’s support of the Socks of Love campaign has been truly uplifting, and we invite everyone to participate on February 27 and help us continue this meaningful tradition.”

Kindness has a ripple effect, benefiting both those who give and those who receive. On February 27, Iowans are encouraged to take part in any act of kindness, whether big or small, monetary or hands-on, anonymous or personal, and help spread #IowaKind throughout the community.
