Strategic America founder and chairman Mike Schreurs announces retirement

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Feb. 24, 2024) – Mike Schreurs, chairman and chief strategist of Strategic America (SA), an employee-owned, integrated marketing and public relations firm based in West Des Moines, announces his retirement, effective March 1, 2025.

Schreurs founded SA in 1980 in Waterloo, Iowa, with a goal of being Iowa’s finest integrated marketing firm, known for character and for delivering outstanding performance, innovation and accountability for its clients. In 1987, Strategic America opened its Des Moines office, with the full team relocating to the capital city in 1994.

Forty-five years later, Strategic America still calls Des Moines its headquarters and has grown into one of the top independent agencies in the nation. SA supports a variety of greater Des Moines’ businesses, non-profit organizations and causes — including iconic local brands such as Anderson Erickson (AE) Dairy and Des Moines Public Schools — along with large national brands like Lennox and Pella. Now an employee-owned firm of 130 associates, SA’s clients cover many industries — including home, health, wealth, retail, education, and advocacy. Many clients have great longevity with SA and attribute their success to Schreurs and the SA team.

Following his retirement from his most recent roles at SA, Mike will continue to serve as a strategic consultant on a part-time basis and remain involved on industry and civic boards. Post-retirement, Mike says he is looking forward to spending more time with family and friends and having time to plan his next adventure.
