WDM Chamber Introduces Civic Connect to Enhance Business Advocacy

WEST DES MOINES, IA (March 18, 2024) – The West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce has announced the ongoing initiatives of its Government Affairs Committee, Civic Connect. This committee is dedicated to fostering education, engagement, and encouragement among its members, emphasizing the importance of active participation in civic affairs.

Civic Connect is a nonpartisan group of leaders bridging the gap between the business community, local government, and the wider West Des Moines community. Their goal is to provide information, encourage engagement, and improve the economic environment for businesses and residents.

"We believe that an informed and engaged community is the cornerstone of a thriving city," said Robert Palmer, Chair of Civic Connect and General Counsel & Director of Government Affairs at the Iowa League of Cities. "By facilitating dialogue, sharing knowledge, and connecting stakeholders, we empower our members to play an active role in shaping the future of West Des Moines and our region."

The Government Affairs Committee will take a comprehensive approach, focusing on educating members, engaging decision-makers, and advocating for policies that benefit Chamber members and the city. Its priorities include hosting events like the Westside Legislative Breakfast, Candidate Forums, and gatherings with political figures such as the Governor of Iowa.

"We're committed to providing valuable opportunities for our members to interact with key stakeholders and stay informed on critical issues," said Katherine Harrington, President & CEO of the WDM Chamber. "Civic Connect embodies our Chamber's dedication to fostering collaboration and driving positive change within our community."

The WDM Chamber will host its next Civic Connect event featuring Iowa State Representative David Young on March 22nd from 2:00-3:00 PM at the WDM Chamber of Commerce Offices located at 650 S.
