WDM Chamber Opens Registration for YURtern Summer Intern Program

WEST DES MOINES, IA (APRIL 2, 2024) – The West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce (WDM Chamber) announces the opening of registration for its YURtern Summer Intern program. YURtern (which stands for "It’s Your Turn" combined with "intern,"), now in its seventh year, offers opportunities for young professionals to gain insights from industry experts on networking, interviewing, and achieving success in their careers. Graduates of the program have gone on to become influential leaders in the community, with many recognized as Forty under 40 recipients.

In the summer of 2023, over 300 interns from 39 businesses and 17 colleges and universities participated in the YURtern program, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and experiences. As part of the program’s commitment to cultivating talent within the DSM Metro, participation in YURtern is completely free for every intern. Last year the WDM Chamber worked with R Productions to tell the story of YURtern and promote the opportunity to our community. View the the program’s spotlight video here.

“The YURtern program is about finding confidence, focusing on career growth, and making connections – we want it to be Your Turn for success.” said Meredith Murphy, Talent Attraction Manager at the WDM Chamber. “It is wonderful to watch these students go from strangers to friends in one summer and to see their skills flourish in Des Moines as they network with each other and get a jump start to their professional lives.”

Employers with interns are encouraged to attend the Employer Info Session on May 14 at BeerStyles, regardless of prior participation in the YURtern program. This event offers a valuable opportunity to network with other professionals, gain insights into the YURtern program, and enjoy complimentary food and beverages, courtesy of Presenting Sponsor, Palmer Group.
