WEST DES MOINES LEADERSHIP ACADEMY CELEBRATES CLASS OF 2026 GRADUATION
WEST DES MONES, IA (May 26, 2026) – The West Des Moines Leadership Academy (WDMLA), a program of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, proudly celebrates the graduation of its Class of 2026, recognizing 44 emerging leaders who have completed the Academy’s nine-month leadership development program.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in an immersive experience focused on leadership growth, critical thinking, and collaboration. Designed to build strong, community-minded leaders, the Academy equips participants with the skills and connections needed to create lasting impact both professionally and across the region.
“This year’s graduating class represents a strong and diverse group of leaders committed to growth, service, and making a difference,” said Pat Desenberg, Chair of WDMLA Advisory Council. “Their dedication over the past nine months reflects the purpose of the Academy, to develop leaders who will shape the future of our community.”
As part of their graduation experience, the Class of 2026 completed a Community Impact Project, partnering with local nonprofit Can Play. While serving as a hands-on leadership exercise, the project allowed participants to apply their skills in a real-world setting while giving back to the community.
Through a collaborative and creative effort, including a large-scale, community-focused mini-golf fundraising event, the class achieved measurable impact. They raised over $76,294.56 in sponsorships, $13,733 in in-kind donations, and additional funds through raffles and full class giving. After expenses, the class achieved a final fundraising total of $90,027.56, significantly exceeding their original $65,000 goal.
Now joining an established network of WDMLA alumni, the Class of 2026 graduates leave the program prepared to lead within their organizations and contribute to the continued growth and vitality of the West Des Moines region.
